Washington, DC [January 28, 2020] – Twenty vocalists went head-to-head at the Arena Stage Mead Center for American Theater on Jan. 27, where one soloist and one a cappella group rose above the competition to snag a spot in the iconic National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade? presented by Events DC.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival and a panel of industry judges selected the GW Troubadours and Aurora Martin, an opera singer from Arlington, VA, as the winners of the seventh annual Sing Into Spring competition, an event that shines a spotlight on homegrown talent.
The GW Troubadours and Aurora Martin have secured a coveted spot to perform for thousands in the largest spectator event of the Festival, the nationally televised National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade? presented by Events DC, on Saturday, April 4.
Judges of the Sing Into Spring competition included WAMU News Anchor Gerri Mitchell; WJLA/ABC7 News Anchor Carl Willis; 97.1 WASH-FM Morning Host Toby Knapp; former Sing Into Spring winner Melissa “Randae” Harris; as well as producers of the Parade.
The GW Troubadours and Aurora Martin will perform among a standout lineup of celebrity entertainers, marching bands from across the country, energetic performers, giant colorful helium balloons, and elaborate floats in a magnificent musical showcase exclusively performed during the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade? presented by Events DC.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival Paradea presented by Events DC is the largest spectator event throughout the Festival’s four-week duration, and will be held from 10:00am to noon on Saturday, April 4, 2020. The Parade is Metro-accessible via the Navy Memorial Station on the Yellow/Green lines or Federal Triangle Station on the Blue/Orange lines.
ABOUT THE WINNERS
Aurora Martin is quickly becoming recognized for her colorful and sparkling soprano. She completed her masters in Vocal Performance at The New England Conservatory (NEC). Her love of concert work led her to performances of Erik Satie’s Socrates and Mahler’s Das Knaben Wunderhorn with NEC’s orchestra and a notable performance of Pamina in Die Zauberfl?te. Aurora received her Bachelor’s degrees in both Music and Chemistry from Virginia Tech and in 2011, she was selected as a Young Apprentice Artist with Opera Roanoke and made her professional debut as Inez in Il Trovatore.
THE GW TROUBADOURS
Founded in 1925, The GW Troubadours is George Washington University’s original a cappella group. Rooted in their passion for music, the Troubs bring a sense of community and family from their studio to the stage every time they perform. They have performed at the National Cathedral, The Obama White House, and The Supreme Court among other landmark DC institutions.
